Six Sigma
Six sigma is a process and tool set for continuous improvement of process and product quality. Six sigma
stands for 3.4
defects per million opportunities (DPMO). Principles of six sigma include customer focus and management
by fact using
statistical methods. Motorola developed the process, and GE is currently its most famous advocate.
The overall process, DMAIC: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control is a refinement of the TQM
process that Dr.
W. Edwards Deming attributed to Dr. Walter Shewhart: Plan->Do->Check (Study)->Act.
